Daylight Savings Time

It's fall. Early deer season is done. Regular deer season starts soon. Elk season follows in November. Halloween is a month away and then Thanksgiving. Oh, and daylight savings time ends on the 2nd of November. My only involvement with it has been not to forget to set the clocks back before I go to bed on Saturday night. The same responsibility I have in the spring for setting the clocks ahead one hour. I say clocks because we have an old windup clock in the house , as well as one on the microwave and the stove. All other time keeping is internet controlled. My phone sets itself, as does my computer and my TV set.

It seems that this "springing" forward and "falling" back really upsets some folks. Dairy farmers have complained that the hour shift causes their milk cows some consternation. I say that the animals, domestic or wild, have lived their whole lives according to the sun coming up and then going down. Man is bothered. Animals; not bothered. Their clocks never change. Yes, farmers sleep will need to be adjusted one way or another to accommodate the natural world's insistence on following the natural order of things, but that's man's fault not the animals.

The changing of the clocks and the anxiety it causes is just man's way of fucking with himself. I know there are mothers who don't want their babies going off or returning from school in the dark. They don't mind when nature does it. When nature does it, the kids know how to get around near dawn and early evening.

Doctors have weighed in on the health problems created every spring and fall because of this hour adjustment. Really? So, every time a person stays out several hours later then normal for a play, movie, or a party; they're ruining their health. Every time someone gets up early to go fishing, hiking, or start a trip; they are ruining their health. Heck, my wife and I sometimes watch tv an hour longer, how much is that hurting us. I don't know.

I'm sure there are a plethora of reasons for hating and ranting about daylight savings time. I guess I just don't have the same take on it. I've heard that some folks would like to make daylight savings time year around. That is called standard time. Honestly, why does anyone give a shit one way or the other. Get over yourself. Get up and milk cows, send the kids off to school, and stop claiming fake medical bullshit.

I've been up late, and I've gotten up early. Someday I will die of something. I just don't believe that daylight savings time will be what kills me. However, when I do die, I don't want it said that I was foolish enough to worry about one hour twice each year. Just say'n.
